Aidan Thompson-Coates. Artistic Director, ApposArt discusses the process and power of live theatre as a media to challenge attitudes and change behaviour on social issues such as mental health, male sexual abuse and the impacts of social media.

In the podcast Aidan shares:

·         his research methodology including surveying, Skype calls, face-to-face and typed responses from individuals who have experienced life challenges, and
·         his writing process, such as through his recent production “Clouded” written based on research findings from speaking with young people about their experiences of social media.

John and Aidan discuss how as the writer you sensitively tell a survivor story when you have the task of cutting out more about people’s personal experiences than what you can live in.

The podcast is rounded off by a discussion on the sustainability of the platform of live theatre to raise awareness of issues and as Aidan says, people learn best when they think they aren’t being taught.
